Volleyball

Summer

Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. It is one of the best team sports you can play both socially and competitively. Once the important skills are developed, players will improve each time they play. The objective of the game is to make sure the ball hits the ground on your opponent’s side of the court, or they are unable to hit the ball back over the net to your side.

Volleyball at Howick College continues to be one of the biggest growing sports, with numbers up year on year. The College continues to make an investment in this sport to ensure that everyone who is wanting to play volleyball, can play.

Volleyball is a summer sport so is played in terms 1 and 4. Seniors play in term 1 with Juniors playing in term 4. Howick College performs at the highest level when it comes to girls’ volleyball, with boys having previously been in the same position. In 2023 the Senior Girls team travelled to Palmerston North to represent Howick College at nationals. They came away with the silver medal in division three, which is an amazing result.
