Arts & Culture
Drama
Students interested in Drama can take part in various festivals and competitions such as the SGCNZ University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival and the Auckland Live Showdown, earning numerous awards for their productions and individual performances. Major school musical productions and senior shows allow students to be involved in all aspects of the production process, from acting and directing to set and costume design, as well as the technical aspects of lighting and sound.

Creative Arts
Howick College has a proud tradition in the Arts, with students achieving recognition at regional, national, and international levels.
Dance
Our strong, diverse dance programme covers multiple styles. The annual Howick College Dance Showcase is a calendar highlight, featuring co-curricular and cultural groups as well as students taking Dance as a subject. Dancers compete at various events throughout the year, with some reaching international stages.

Music
Students can learn instruments or take vocal lessons, joining ensembles such as String Orchestra, Jazz Band, and Choir. Our musicians perform at the KBB Music Festival, Smokefree Rockquest, community concerts at Uxbridge Arts & Culture Centre, and school events including awards evenings and drama productions.

Visual Arts
Our dynamic programme supports students interested in practical art, painting, design, and photography. Students engage with visiting artists and showcase their work at events including the East Auckland Youth Visual Arts Showcase, Pat Hanley Creativity Awards, Focus Art Exhibition, and Regional Visual Arts Showcase.

Cultural Groups
Cultural expression is vital at Howick College. Students share their heritage through music, language, and performance while exploring our diverse school community. Supported by our Cultural Council, students lead, celebrate their identity, and foster cultural understanding across the school.
Our Kapa Haka group is a taonga of the school, honouring Te Ao Māori, welcoming guests, and performing at key events. Student-led groups represent Samoan, Tongan, Indian, Chinese, Filipino, Fijian, Tokelauan, and Cook Islands cultures.
These groups perform at Culture Week, the Howick College Food Festival, and our popular Pō Fiafia evening. Students also lead language week celebrations with performances, activities, and tutorials.

Celebrating Diversity
Howick College's rich cultural diversity is recognised, celebrated, and embraced daily. We offer meaningful engagement opportunities for whānau through Fono Evenings for Pasifika aiga and our annual Hui for Māori whānau, led by student leaders and supported by staff.
Clubs & Interest Groups
Howick College offers diverse clubs catering to varied interests - from costume design, theatre sports, and drawing to chess, coding, and debating. Groups like Z Club and LEOs provide community service opportunities. Most clubs meet weekly at lunchtime with staff support and Arts Council guidance.
All students are encouraged to join at least one club at the annual Arts & Co-Curricular Muster held at the beginning of Term 1.
