Last Sunday, a group of dedicated Howick College students and staff took on the Auckland Half Marathon, enjoying a brilliant day in the sunshine and running in support of I Am Hope — raising awareness and funds for youth mental health.
German international student, Urban Schermayer, led the group, finishing in 1:51:31, with Yalini Velmurugan not far behind, cracking the two-hour mark at 1:56:35. Marika Diamond crossed the line just 15 seconds later, while Evie Hollyman and Adam Bousader also achieved excellent finishing times.
Among the staff, Mr Joseph Dunleavy led the way with 2:01:58, followed by Ms Lindsey Brown, Ms Sam Parsons, Ms Jacqueline Prowse, and Mr Steve Dymond, all crossing the line in great spirits.
It was great to see family, friends, and international students cheering at the finish line — especially team member Frederik Lausen. Also a German international student, Frederik had to withdraw just before the race due to a chest infection, but showed unwavering enthusiasm, proudly waving a bright Howick College sign and cheering on his teammates.
Together, the team has already raised over $2,500 for I Am Hope through donations, raffle sales, and community support. Huge thanks to everyone who contributed — your generosity makes a real difference.
With so much excitement for next year’s event, it looks like those running shoes won’t be in retirement for long!
