Uniform & Grooming

At Howick College, students are expected to take pride in their uniform presentation. Wearing the correct uniform demonstrates respect, unity, and our commitment to excellence. By wearing your uniform correctly, you show our 4C values and pride in being part of the Howick College community.
Students must wear the correct uniform when travelling to and from school, at school, and during official out-of-school activities.

Bottoms

Shorts: Charcoal/white pinstripe shorts
Worn with black/red stripe crew socks -
Skirt: Charcoal/white pinstripe skirt (knee-length or ankle-length)
Knee-length skirts must be worn at the knee
Worn with plain black above-the-ankle socks or black opaque stockings
"No-show" ankle socks and socks with visible branding are not permitted -
Trousers: Charcoal/white pinstripe trousers

Important note: The charcoal/red stripe knee-high sock is being phased out and is no longer available from NZ Uniforms. Students who already own them may continue to wear them, but they must be worn pulled up to the knee.

How to Borrow Dress Uniform:

Visit the Student Office a few days before the dress uniform is required

All items must be returned the following day in good, clean condition

Students may be liable for any loss or damage to borrowed items
Blazer Hire:

Available from the Student Office for a $50 bond

Can be purchased new from NZ Uniforms

If not returned, students will be charged $160

Students arriving at school in incorrect uniform must report to the Student Office before school starts.
If you have ongoing uniform concerns, please contact your child's Dean to discuss.
Clean and tidy uniforms are gratefully accepted when your child leaves Howick College. Please drop donations to the Student Office during school hours.
All students must follow the appearance and grooming requirements outlined below, even on non-uniform days.

Clothing with pictures or writing that may offend others (e.g., references to alcohol, drugs, gangs, or rude slogans)

Low-cut, strapless tops, singlets, or overly exposed tops

Caps or beanies worn in class

Hair

Hair colour must be natural

Extreme hair colours and styles are not permitted
Facial Hair

Students must be clean-shaven

Exceptions are only made for cultural or religious reasons (see the Principal)
Jewellery
Jewellery must be minimal:

One ring per hand

One bracelet OR one necklace

Two small gold or silver studs or sleeper earrings per ear

One small nose stud or clear retainer (see examples of acceptable styles)
Not Permitted:

Nose rings, septum rings, facial piercings, or tongue piercings
Nails

Fingernail and toenail polish must be clear

Coloured nail polish is not permitted
Make-up

Make-up must be minimal
Under-Uniform Clothing

Only singlets may be worn under the school uniform shirt and must not be visible

T-shirts and long-sleeved thermal layers are not permitted
