COVID-19 Update

Monday, 9 March 2020

New Zealand has now confirmed its fifth COVID-19 patient. All cases have travelled from overseas and, as of today, there is no spread of this virus within the NZ community.

At present, Howick College is fully operational and therefore it is essentially business as usual. The Howick College Senior Leadership Team is following Ministry of Health advice to prepare for community spread in NZ and we have activated our Pandemic plan to the first stage which is preparation.

To keep our Howick College community in the best health possible we ask the following:
  •  If your student is unwell with a fever, PLEASE keep them at home. Call Healthline free on 0800 358 5453 for COVID-19 advice and information
  • If you or a family member are in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID -19 please keep your student at home. Call Healthline free on 0800 358 5453 for COVID-19 advice and information.
To protect your family:
  • Avoid close contact with people suffering acute respiratory infections;
  • Frequently and thoroughly wash and dry hands, especially after contact with ill people or their environment;
  • Avoid close contact with sick live farm animals or wild animals

People with symptoms of acute respiratory infection should practice cough etiquette:

  • Maintain distance from others (one metre or more).
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues or cough/sneeze into your elbow.
  • Wash your hands.
If you are planning on travelling overseas and are worried you may be going to an area affected by the virus, check the government website  for the latest travel advisories before you go.
Please ensure that your contact details are up to date with the school reception. We will continue to communicate with you over this time as the situation develops.
