The College has a well established Performing Arts Department which provides many opportunities for students to unleash their talents. Curricular Music and Drama are catered for to Scholarship level and students can also study Dance to Level 2. Jillian Dryden oversees the Department as HOD Performing Arts and also has responsibility for the Drama Department. Matthew O'Ryan is the HOD Music and Ichiro Harada is the HOD Dance. In 2003 our state of the art Performing Arts Centre was completed at a cost of $1.7 Million . The building contains 8 studio rehearsal spaces, A large dance studio, a purpose built recording studio, as well as 5 large subject specific classrooms. The music side also contains a dedicated senior composition lab. Two of the classrooms can be opened up to create an intimate performance space, seating 110. The building also contains a larger theatre venue which seats up to 400.The major musical and senior play are held in the larger space while class plays and recitals are held in the multi-purpose studio. As well as extensive performance opportunities students also gain experience with many aspects of the latest theatre technology. A range of sound and lighting consoles as well as moving light technology mean we can provide a industry like experience for our student technicians. Video and audio links are provided throughout the building. Howick College Performing Arts graduates are scattered throughout the entertainment and associated industries. We have a mentor programme in place, which connects these professionals with our students on a regular basis.
