School Organisation Departments Mathematics Mathematics
The Mathematics Department provides courses at all year levels of the school. Junior classes at years 9 and 10 prepare students for the NCEA level one standards attempted at year 11. Less able students are streamed for extra assistance. At year 11 there are 3 courses offered. Most students attempt 24 credits at level 1 of NCEA, in the 11MAT course. Students who have struggled with Algebra attempt 17 credits at level 1 of NCEA in the 11ALM (alternative Maths) course. Less able students attempt up to 14 credits, including some unit standards in the 11MAP (Maths Applied) course. At year 12 there are 3 courses offered with the same aims as the 3 courses at year 11. At year 13 there are 5 courses offered. The Maths with Calculus and the Statistics and Modelling courses are both at NCEA level 3 and enable students to continue their studies at tertiary level. There are opportunities for high achieving students to attempt the level 4 (Scholarship) exams in both of these subjects, with extra tutoring. There are 2 further courses in these two disciplines, with a revision segment taken before the level three content, and one standard not taught.
