Student Leadership

Howick College is committed to providing leadership opportunities for students. This develops citizenship - one of the key values promoted by the 3 C’s Council and reinforces the mission of “equipping students for lifelong learning”. The leadership training our students receive complements the key competencies outlined by the Ministry of Education regarding Participating and Contributing; Relating to others and Managing self.


Students gain valuable insight, training and experience within the following positions or areas of school life:

  •  House Leaders – organise house activities, competitions and charity appeals

  • Year 13 leaders – organise major events e.g. The School Ball, Graduation Dinner

  • Sports Council – promote student participation and interest in sports codes and organise Hillcrest exchange and Sports Dinner

  • Arts Council – promote student participation in the Performing and Visual Arts and organise Musical and Dance Performances and Arts night showcasing student talent

  • Community Service Leaders – promote citizenship student participation in activities like Blood Bank, World Vision 40 Hour Famine, International Food Festival; School Hosts etc

  • Peer Support Leaders – responsible for welcoming and orientating year 9 students

  • Academic Mentors – year 13 students who assist students during their non-contact periods

  • Tutor Group - our senior students mentor the junior students during the tutor group periods. The vertical system allows students to mix in a structured yet informal manner.
