Examples of Community Involvement...

There are many opportunities for students to become involved in their school and local community. The Community Council organises events throughout the year, and students can be involved by helping on the committees or by participating in events such as:

40 Hour Famine - students are encouraged to participate in the World Vision famine and there is also the opportunity to join the organising committee.

Environment Committee - students can take part in community minded projects such as tree planting at Mangamangaroa Reserve or beach clean-ups.

ShelterBox - in support of countries affected by cyclones in the Pacific, the Pasifika Leadership Group arranged fundraising events to provide support to ShelterBox.

NZ Blood Bank - many students take part in the annual blood donation day as a way to serve the wider community.

Student Hosts - these students help out at many of the evening events the school organises, such as parent/teacher interviews and careers evening. They welcome visitors to the school and help direct them to where they need to go.

International Student Buddy - when our International Students arrive, they are paired up with a Howick College buddy who helps them to settle into the school and find their way around. They are an important part of welcoming and supporting the new students.
