Howick College opened in Februrary 1974 with a roll of 216 students and 16 staff. Since then we have grown into a large school with approximately 1,800 students and 250 staff.
The past four decades have seen huge changes in education, with the move to NCEA qualifications and also the way technology is now used to create engaging learning for our students.
Thousands of students have passed through our halls since we began inspiring a community of passionate learners, and we are honoured to have some of their children with us today.
40th Jubilee Celebration
It was great to see so many of our Alumni at the recent Jubilee day reunion. Over 300 former students and staff gathered in the library for the evening Mix and Mingle.
During the day, group photos were taken and the school was open for tours. For many of our former students, particularly those from the 70's, it was their first time back and they were amazed to see just how we have grown and changed over the years.
Many also enjoyed the Devonshire teas that were available in our cafe, thanks to our wonderful hospitality students.
A big thank you goes to all who helped in organising and preparing for the day: the Jubilee committee, Mr Pearce and the property team, Mr Roberts and Mrs Copestake and their hospitality students, Mrs King and the library team, Mr Douglas and Mr Cheng, Mr Harman,Mrs Wright and her student hosts, the Howick Lions, Basalt Howick and South Auckland Taxis and many more.
Photos from the Jubilee day can be viewed in the Photo Gallery here or downloaded via the Dropbox link here. A selection are also on the Howick College Alumni FaceBook page.
